CANTON
The Roos won seven games for the second straight season, but this year five of those seven came in the second half.
Josh Sova is the biggest of nine seniors who finished their collegiate careers. The Oswego native played 102 career games with 32 goals and 80 points.
The other New Yorker honored is senior defenseman Trenton Yule (Oswego), who finished with 22 points over 99 career games.
CLARKSON
The Golden Knights reached the ECAC semi-finals for the first time since their NCAA regional final year of 2007-08 with their come-from behind win over Colgate in the quarterfinals.
Sophomore forward Sheldon Rempal, the league’s third leading scoring with 26 points, was selected to the ECAC First Team All-League along with teammate Kelly Summers, who appeared in all 22 league games, registering 38 blocks and led conference defenseman in power-play points (3g-10a-13pts).
Defenseman Terrance Amorosa was named to the Second Team as a key component on Clarkson’s top-rated power-play with nine (3-6) power-play points in league-play. Sophomore Nico Sturm was named to the Third Team with goaltender Jake Kielly while forward Jack Jacome was an All-Rookie Team selection.
Sturm was also named the 2017-18 ECAC Hockey Best Defensive Forward as voted on by the 12 league coaches. Sturm is the top player in the league and country at the face-off circle, winning 61.7% (401-249) of his draws on the season. He has helped the Golden Knights boast the second-rated defense in the nation, allowing only 1.91 goals per game.
PLATTSBURGH
Freshman Rich McCartney was named Rookie of the Year after he led the Cardinals with 17 goals and two assists over 25 games. He was also a Second Team All-SUNYAC pick along with blueliner teammates Philip Middleton and Ayrton Valente.
Freshman goaltender Jimmy Poreda (Tonawanda) registered his second shutout of the season Feb. 3 versus Potsdam.
POTSDAM
After clinching their third SUNYAC playoff berth in four seasons, the sixth-seeded Bears lost their quarterfinal game at Buffalo State to end their season.
Kyle Thacker and Dylan Vander Esch signed professional contracts with the Wheeling Nailers of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL). Both were also named to All-SUNYAC teams–Vander Esch earned second team honors, while Thacker was named to the third team.
Vander Esch completes his impressive career with 101 points ranking seventh on the program’s goals scored list with 62.
Senior goaltender Brenden McMenimen finishes his career with 19 wins to tie him for fourth place on the program’s wins list. He is fifth in program history with 1555 saves, second in save percentage at .904 and third in goals-against-average with 3.25.
Senior Joey Gilhooly (Brooklyn) also completed his collegiate career with 22 points over 76 games.
- LAWRENCE
The Saints won just eight times all season despite taking Dartmouth to a deciding third game in the ECAC quarterfinal series—and their 27 losses this season sets a new program record breaking the record of 26 losses set in 1979-80.
South Huntington native Mike Marnell is among the six seniors on the squad. He had 79 points over his 115 career games.
