BINGHAMTON, NY – The New Jersey Devils announced today that they have signed forward Kevin Rooney to a two-year, two-way contract. The announcement was made by Devils’ Executive Vice President/General Manager Ray Shero.
Rooney, 25, completed his second full professional season in 2017-18. He played in 71 games for the Binghamton Devils where he registered 14 goals and 20 assists for 34 points. The left-shooting forward played one game at the NHL level in 2017-18, and has appeared in five career NHL games.
Before his professional career, the 6-foot-2, 190 pound forward spent four seasons with Providence College (HE) from 2012 to 2016, where he was a member of the Friars’ NCAA Championship team in 2014. Through 144 collegiate games, he scored 17 goals and 19 assists for 36 points and 70 penalty minutes. The Canton, MA native earned the Athletic Department’s Mal Brown Award in 2016, which is given annually to the male athlete whose career of intercollegiate competition portrayed sportsmanship, courage and honor.
The Devils will open up the 2018-19 season at home on Saturday, October 6 at 7:05 p.m. against the Toronto Marlies.
