ASTON, PA- The Utica College women’s hockey team remained unbeaten Friday as it downed host Neumann University 3-2 in UCHC conference action.
The Pioneers improve to 7-0 on the year and 5-0 in the conference. The teams return to action on Saturday to wrap up the season series. Game time is scheduled for 2 p.m.
Junior Rebecca Brown (Steamboat Springs, CO/Norwich University) opened the scoring at 7:56 as she extended her scoring streak to seven games. Kirsten Johnson (Brockville, Ontario/RSL Midget Thunder AA) and Katrina Cornick (Mason City, IA/Rocky Mountain Roughriders) assisted on Brown’s team-leading sixth of the year.
Neumann got the equalizer at 2:44 of the second period when Jackie Schneider put in a feed from Jordyn Cholish. Helen Cooney also assisted on the power play tally.
Utica regained the lead at 8:53 when sophomore Lexi Stanisewski (Lawrence, MA/Boston Shamrocks) put in her fourth of the year, assisted by Elizabeth Dohner (Highlands Ranch, CO/Colorado Selects). Neumann again evened the score just over halfway through the period when Claudia Trionfo found the back of the net for her first of the season.
Dohner gave Utica the lead for good at 11:45 of the third as she put in her fourth of the year. Stanisewski and Colby Begis (Little Elm, TX/Dallas Stars) tallied helpers on the game-winner.
Junior Bria Reilly (Hamden, CT/Brewster Academy) made 14 saves, while Cooney made 37 saves for the Knights.
