HAMDEN, Conn.—The Colgate Women’s Hockey team refused to quit on Saturday afternoon at the Frank Perrotti, Jr. Arena in a 3-3 tie against Quinnipiac.
After a tough Friday evening, the Raiders came out flying and got the start they were looking for. Eleri MacKay put the puck in the offensive zone, then Rosalie Demers stormed past a Bobcat defender to win the loose puck. From there, she flipped a wrist shot over the blocker side of Quinnipiac goalie Abbie Ives. It was the freshman’s second goal of the season.
Midway through the opening frame, the Raiders fell victim to a pair of quick strikes from the Bobcats to surrender their lead. Quinnipiac struck for two goals in the span of 15 seconds to take a 2-1 advantage. They then added another marker with just under three minutes left in the period, but the Raiders weren’t done in the opening frame.
With under a minute to play, Livia Altmann retrieved a puck in the defensive zone and fed Jessie Eldridge in the neutral zone. Eldridge then flipped a pass near the red line to Shae Labbe, who zoomed into the attacking end and then returned a pass to Eldridge, who blasted a one-timer home from the slot. It was the senior’s 8th goal on the season to make it 3-2 heading into the first intermission.
After an explosive opening period, the second period proved to be the antithesis, as both teams combined for just 13 shots on net, with the Raiders owning the 10-3 advantage. Julia Vandyk also entered at the beginning of the frame and stopped all three shots she saw to keep the deficit at one heading into the third.
The Raiders continued to carry the play into the third period, but could not find the equalizer, until lightning struck.
With the Bobcats on the power play with five minutes to play, Eldridge created a turnover in the defensive zone and went on a breakaway that originated at the far blue line. She entered the zone and fired a shot off the post and in for her second of the day to tie the score at 3-3.
The Raiders nearly won the game on a buzzer beater when they won a faceoff forward in the final seconds and almost stuffed home the winner, but the game continued on to overtime.
Colgate continued to dominate territorially in the extra session and held a 5-0 advantage in shots on goal, but could not find the game-winner to end the game in a 3-3 tie.

With her two goals, Eldridge now leads the team in goals with nine. Labbe and Malia Schneider are tied for second on the team with six apiece.
The multiple goal effort was Eldridge’s 10th of her career and second this season.
The Raiders dominated in shots on goal with a final tally of 35-15.
