Clarkson, Cornell and Colgate all had players who are committed for either 2019 or 2020 selected by NHL teams at the 2019 Entry Draft in Vancouver.

Cornell had a pair of centers selected as 2019 recruit Matthew Steinburg was chosen by Colorado as the first pick in the third round and center Jack Malone was a sixth-round pick (180th overall) by the Vancouver Canucks.

Steinberg, a 6’1”, 185 lb. power forward from St. Andrews High School in Aurora, Ontario, Canada is coming off a solid campaign with 31 goals and 35 assists in just 48 games.

“It was a little bit nerve-wracking I think,” Steinberg said in the media room after being selected. “Coming from a prep school I really didn’t know what to expect but now I’m thrilled. To go this early I think is earlier than I expected, so I’m going to do whatever I can to make sure they made the right decision.”

Malone played last season with Youngstown in the USHL netting 56 points in 55 games including 38 assists. He also has some size at 6’1” and 192 lb.

Clarkson also had two future players selected in Alex Campbell and Anthony Romano.

2020 commit Campbell, a 5’10” center out of Victoria in the BCHL, was taken by the Nashville Predators in the third round (65th overall). There he accumulated 67 points in 53 games.

Romano, a 5’11”, 174 lb. right wing who will arrive this fall, netted 26 goals and 47 points in 60 USHL games this past season with Sioux Falls. He was selected by Arizona in the sixth round (176th overall).

And future Colgate goaltender Carter Gylander (2020 commit) was selected in the seventh round (191st overall) by the Detroit Red Wings. The 6’5”, 172 lb. played part-time for Sherwood Park in the AJHL last season, where he posted a 2.43 goals against average over 22 games with a .915 save percentage. He expects to be the primary starter at the school this coming season.
