Sabres Sign Girgensons To One-Year Deal

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Buffalo Sabres announced the team has signed forward Zemgus Girgensons on a one-year contract with an AAV of $1.6 million.

Last season, Girgensons (6’2”, 211 lbs., 1/5/1994) played 72 games for the Sabres and recorded 18 points (5+13), all of which came at even strength. His 18 even-strength points marked Girgensons’ highest total since he recorded a career-high 23 even-strength points in 2014-15.

Drafted by the Sabres in the first round (14th overall) of the 2012 NHL Draft, Girgensons has recorded 119 points (49+70) and 120 penalty minutes in 420 career NHL games for Buffalo and appeared in the 2015 NHL All-Star Game. The Riga, Latvia native has represented his country numerous times, including the 2014 Winter Olympic Games and the 2012 IIHF World Junior Championship.
