GOVERNORS’ SHOWCASE BACK IN BUFFALO NEXT MONTH

NHL, NCAA, U Sports, CHL scouts headed to Harborcenter for 5th straight year

Mississauga, ON – The Ontario Junior Hockey League’s Governors’ Showcase returns to Buffalo’s Harborcenter for the fifth straight year next month, showcasing the league’s players to the hockey world.

All 22 OJHL teams will play two games during the course of the event Monday, Sept. 23 through Wednesday, Sept. 25. The games count in the OJHL regular season standings.

Harborcenter is the twin-rink practice facility of the Buffalo Sabres. It is attached to the NHL team’s arena, KeyBank Center, on downtown Buffalo’s waterfront.

The Ontario Junior Hockey League is the largest Junior ‘A’ league operating under the auspices of the Canadian Junior Hockey League, with 22 member clubs. The OJHL had more than 120 commitments in 2018-19, including 65 NCAA Division I scholarships.

“This is the fifth year that the OJHL Governors have hosted our annual showcase in Buffalo, NY, the home of our Buffalo Junior Sabres,” said OJHL Chairman and Cobourg Cougar Governor Marc Mercier.  “The OJHL Governors’ Showcase consistently attracts over 200 scouts annually for this three-day event that displays all players from our 22 member clubs at the beautiful Harborcenter, the goal of which is to provide a platform for our players to be showcase their skills to as many recruiters as possible to start the season in one convenient location.”

“The Buffalo Junior Sabres and the Harborcenter are tremendous partners that allow for the OJHL to host one of the top junior hockey showcases in North America,” said OJHL Commissioner Marty Savoy.  “We are once again looking forward to hosting a first-class event for all players, staff, fans, scouts and junior hockey supporters.”

Last year’s event in Buffalo attracted more than 200 scouts from various levels of the game, including the NHL, NCAA, CHL and U Sports.

All-day general admission passes will be available to fans for $20 US for each day of the showcase. Children under the age of 12 will be admitted free. Showcase games take place on both KeyBank Rink 1 and New Wave Energy Rink 2.
