OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is proud to announce the five-member 2019 Hall of Fame Class. On Saturday, Oct. 5, these former Laker student-athletes will be inducted into the hallowed hall at a banquet in historic Sheldon Hall during Homecoming Weekend: Gary Bartemus ’76, Erin Hanlon ’03, Mark Howard ’84, Tom McFall ’90 and Susan McWilliams ’04 M’07.

A two-year member of the swimming and diving team, Bartemus made his presence known on the diving boards. In 1975, the diver earned All-America honors on the 3-meter board. Bartemus has the distinct honor of being the first All-American diver in Oswego State history. That same year, Bartemus’ place on the 3-meter board helped the Lakers finish 25th at the NCAA Championships. Over his two years, Bartemus won both the 1- and 3-meter events at multiple meets, including matchups against Brockport, Geneseo and Binghamton.

Arguably the most prolific volleyball player in Oswego’s history, Hanlon collected several accolades while capturing several spots in the record books. She was the first – and remains the only – All-American for volleyball, nabbing honorable mention recognition from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) in 2003. Hanlon was also named All-New York Region First Team in both 2002 and 2003. Following her junior season, Hanlon was honored as the SUNYAC West Division’s First Year Player of the Year. After more than 15 seasons have passed, Hanlon still ranks first in program history for career hitting percentage (.326), single-season kills (612) and single-season hitting percentage (.371). Her 1,168 kills is second all-time for Oswego, accumulating that total in just two seasons.

Continuing the Howard legacy at Oswego, wrestler Mark Howard joins his father, legendary wrestling head coach Jim Howard, in the Oswego Athletics Hall of Fame. After transferring to Oswego from North Carolina State (DI) to wrestle for his father, Howard qualified for the NCAA Championships in both of his seasons as a Laker. During his junior campaign, the 134-pounder claimed eighth place to earn All-America honors. Howard was also an All-New York State wrestler in 1983 and was a two-time All-Conference designee, taking fourth place in 1983 and fifth in 1984 at the SUNYAC Championships.

A 1990 graduate of Oswego, McFall is still the top-scoring defenseman in Laker men’s ice hockey program history. McFall registered 139 points over his career, coming on 21 goals and 118 assists. He has the most assists in a single-season for a defenseman with 38 during the 1986-87 campaign. Over his 123 games in a Laker uniform, McFall has the eighth most assists for any player in the program. McFall’s capability was honored three times by the SUNYAC coaches, taking home All-SUNYAC Second Team honors as a sophomore and junior before first team recognition as a senior.

In 2003, McWilliams became the third cross-country runner in Oswego history to earn All-America honors and was the first female to accomplish the feat. The All-America status was a cap to a brilliant career that featured NCAA Championship qualification in each of her four seasons. Not only did she qualify for the national meet in all four years, McWilliams finished in the top half of every meet, culminating in a 30th place finish as a senior in a field that featured more than 200 runners. As a senior, she finished fourth at the NCAA Atlantic Regional and won the Geneseo Invitational. In 2002, McWilliams had her best showing at the state championships, taking fifth. McWilliams was named to the SUNYAC Championship Hall of Fame following just her sophomore season, which indicates a runner finished in the top-five once, top-ten twice or top-15 three times during their career at the conference’s championship meet.

Congratulations to each of the inductees on their well-deserved place in the Oswego State Athletics Hall of Fame. For those interested in attending the banquet, registration is available at the following link: Oswego State Hall of Fame Banquet
