Hobart College sophomore forward PA Martineau was named the New England Hockey Conference Player of the Week by the conference office today. In addition, the Statesmen moved up two spots to No. 6 in the USCHO.com poll.

Hobart rang in the New Year by winning the 2020 Boston Landing Collegiate Invitational at Warrior Ice Arena last weekend. The Statesmen rallied from a 2-1 deficit to knock off Saint John’s 4-2 in Saturday’s semifinal contest. The next day, Hobart jumped out to a 5-1 lead and held on for a 5-4 victory over Bryn Athyn.

Martineau led the Statesmen in Boston this weekend, recording four points on three goals and an assist. On Saturday, Martineau factored into Hobart’s first three goals against the Johnnies. He set up fellow sophomore Blake Coffey’s first goal of the season to open the scoring just under two minutes into the game. At the 2:44 mark of the second period, Martieau slipped a shot between the goalie’s right leg pad and the left goal post to tie the game 2-2. He then added the game-winning goal at the 10:11 mark of the third period. In the championship game, Martineau opened the scoring with a short-handed goal against the Lions. Martineau has played in all 13 games this season and has eight points on four goals and four assists.

Hobart (9-3-1) has concluded the non-conference portion of its schedule. The Statesmen, who are 3-3-0 in the NEHC, will return to conference play this weekend, Jan. 10-11, when they welcome Babson and UMass Boston to The Cooler. Faceoff on Friday is scheduled for 7 p.m., while Saturday’s game will start at 4 p.m.

Friday’s game will feature the last two winners of the Middlebury Holiday Classic, Hobart won the tournament last season. The Beavers, who are receiving votes in the latest USCHO poll, are 9-3-1 overall on the season after defeating St. Michael’s 6-2 in the tournament championship game on Saturday. Babson is 4-2-0 in the NEHC and sits two points ahead of Hobart in the conference standings. The Beavers are led offensively by Ryan Black’s 15 points on five goals and 10 assists. Mike Egan is right behind him with 14 points on a team-high eight goals and six assists. Aidan Murphy has played a majority of the minutes in goal.
