Mordini & Hanson Win Weekly UCHC Awards

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Two members of the Elmira College women’s ice hockey team received weekly honors from the United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC), as Morgan Mordini ’22 and Elizabeth Hanson ’21 were tabbed UCHC North Player and Goalie of the Week, respectively.

Mordini and Hanson helped the No. 7-ranked Soaring Eagles draw a pair of nationally-ranked opponents at the 10th annual East-West Hockey Classic, hosted by Norwich in Northfield, Vermont.

In the first round of the tournament, Mordini potted her first goal of the season against sixth-ranked Adrian. Her tally helped the Purple and Gold erase a two-goal deficit in the third period en route to a 2-2 overtime tie. It marks the third career goal for the second-year forward from North Attleboro, Massachusetts.

In the second round of the East-West Hockey Classic, EC took on the host Cadets from No. 3 Norwich, and thanks to a standout performance from Hanson the two teams skated to a scoreless draw. The junior netminder was named to the All-Tournament Team after making a career-high 33 saves. With the win, the Stoughton, Massachusetts, product remained unbeaten with a 4-0-1 record and lowered her goals-against average to a Division III-best 0.20.

Mordini, Hanson and the No. 7 EC women’s ice hockey team is prepping for a rematch with the No. 3 Cadets at the Murray Athletic Center on Saturday, January 11. The opening puck drop is slated for 3:00 p.m.
