OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (January 22, 2020) – Niagara senior defenseman Noah Delmas has been named as one of 20 men’s ice hockey student-athlete candidates for the 2019-20 Senior Class Award.

Delmas is one of five Atlantic Hockey players named to the list of 20 candidates.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as a NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.

The 20 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists in February, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs.

Classroom
Delmas is a three-time AHA All-Academic honoree majoring in marketing.

Character
After serving as an alternate captain as a junior, Delmas was named the 28th captain in Niagara history prior to his senior season.

When asked why Delmas was given the honor, head coach Jason Lammers had this to say: “Noah embodies our mission as a person, student and player. His own personal growth has been impressive and now he has the honor to lead others by putting ‘we’ ahead of ‘me.'”

Delmas’ passion and reliability on the ice are mirrored by his ability to hold himself and his teammates accountable.

Off the ice, Delmas is approachable, easy to talk to, and always upbeat. His presence in the locker room is the same as with the media or amongst his peers.

Community
Delmas and the rest of his teammates have brought in 7-year-old Jack Marchetta from Team IMPACT to join them during the 2019-20 season. Marchetta has suffered from juvenile dermatomyositis, a rare autoimmune disorder, since birth. To keep his health and strength, he plays hockey and soccer.

At Jack’s introductory press conference in September, Delmas spoke with the Buffalo News about what it meant for both sides to be connected in this way: “Everyone is going through something, whether you know it or not. In our regular, everyday lives, we don’t realize how much of an impact we can have on younger people. Just a friendly hangout, or having Jackson come to the rink, that can change his day or his week.”

Competition
Delmas is coming off a stellar junior season that saw him compete in each of the team’s 41 games. He finished fourth among all defensemen in the nation in terms of both goals (15) and points (40) while pacing the Purple Eagles with 25 assists. Over the course of the year, Delmas earned two seperate Atlantic Hockey Player of the Week awards and was tabbed as the AHA Player of the Month for November. At season’s end, his play earned him a spot on the All-Conference Third Team.

The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2020 NCAA Men’s Frozen Final Four® in April.
