Clinton Upsets Salmon River To Advance To Championship

LAKE PLACID, NY — The Clinton Warriors girls high school hockey team upset the Salmon River Shamrocks, 1-0 in the opening game of the 2020 NYSPHSAA Girls Ice Hockey Regional Championship. The game was played at the 1980 Rink-Herb Brooks Arena.

The contest pitted the No. 2 ranked Salmon River against the No. 3 ranked Clinton. The rankings are based off of MyHockey state rankings.

It marked the first loss of the season for the Shamrocks, who finish their season with a record of 19-1-2.  The Warriors move on, improving their record to 12-2-3.

Clinton goaltender Hailey Millington stopped 9 shots in recording the shutout for the Warriors. Each team had just three shots on each others goal in a scoreless third period.

The Warriors broke the scoreless tie at the 4:45 mark of the second period. Abby Kurdziolek  beat Shamrocks goaltender, Carli Cartier. Drew Kopek assisted on the goal.

Clinton outshot Salmon River for the period 9-5.

The two teams played a scoreless first period with Clinton outshooting Salmon River for the period, 6-1.

Clinton will now face the No. 1 ranked Williamsville team at 6 p.m. on Sunday. Williamsville defeated Plattsburgh, 7-0, on Saturday.

NOTES  —  Clinton outshot Salmon River 18-9 for the game…the Championship contests were moved back a day due to weather.
