ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Manhattanville women’s hockey team saw three players receive All-UCHC honors and head coach David Turco was named United Collegiate Hockey Conference Coach of the Year.
The Valiants saw two players named First Team All-UCHC and one player named to the UCHC All-Rookie team. Senior defender Zoey Pellowitz (Arlington, Va./Washington Pride (JWHL)) and junior forward Tianna Lopes (West Vancouver, British Columbia/Pacific Steelers (JWHL)) were both named to the first team and freshman goalie Lena Flores (Chicago, Ill./Guerin College Prep) was named to the All-Rookie team.
Pellowitz currently sits fourth on the team with 27 points which includes four goals and 23 assists. She was also named UCHC South Player of the Week once this season. Her 23 assists are second on the team, the third-most in the UCHC and tied for the sixth-most in the nation. She has been the anchor of the team’s defense and an integral part of both the power play and penalty kill. The award adds to the First Team All-UCHC honor she received as a junior.
Lopes leads Manhattanville with 41 points so far this season. Her 24 assists are the most on the team and her 17 goals rank second. She was named UCHC South Player of the Week twice earlier this season and totaled a team-high two hat tricks this season. Lopes leads the UCHC in both points and assists and ranks tied for second in the nation in total points and is tied for fourth in assists. This is the first All-UCHC honor of her career.
Flores has been an integral part of the Valiants success this season with an 8-4-1 record in between the pipes. She has recorded three shutouts and has a goals against average of 1.91 and a save percentage of .921. Her goals against average is the fourth-best in the UCHC and her save percentage ranks sixth. She was named UCHC South Rookie of the Week three times this season and Goalie of the Week twice. This is the first All-UCHC honor of her career.
Turco, after leading his team to 15 regular season wins and a UCHC South Division title, was named UCHC Coach of the Year. The team is currently riding a five-game win streak under his direction as they travel to Elmira College for the UCHC final four this weekend. He set the all-time record for career wins this season and this is his first UCHC Coach of the Year honor.
Senior defender Ali Howard (Rye, N.Y./Rye) and senior forward Amanda Sabia (Freehold, N.J./The Gunnery) were each named UCHC Honorable Mentions for their efforts this year to round out the awards for the Valiants.
