LOS ANGELES — Former Elmira College assistant athletic trainer, Jeff Andrews M.S. ’09, was recently promoted to the National Hockey League to serve as an assistant trainer for the Los Angeles Kings.
Andrews received the NHL call-up after four years as the head athletic trainer for the Ontario Reign, the Kings’ American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate in Ontario, California. As part of the AHL’s effort to recognize training staffs from each of the league’s 31 franchises during the COVID-19 pandemic, Andrews was honored as a recipient of the Yanick Dupré Memorial Award last month.
The Horseheads, New York, native began his career in professional hockey shortly after graduating from EC with a master’s degree in Health Service Management. After two seasons with the Elmira Jackals of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL), he made the short trip down I-86 and spent four years as the head athletic trainer for the AHL’s Binghamton Senators.
As a graduate assistant at EC, Andrews worked alongside head athletic trainer Dave Tomkalski to provide coverage for numerous Soaring Eagle programs, including basketball, ice hockey, lacrosse, and soccer.
