COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The U.S. Women’s National Team, which has won the last five IIHF Women’s World Championships, will begin its quest for a sixth straight gold medal on Friday (Aug. 20) with a preliminary round matchup against Switzerland at the 2021 IIHF Women’s World Championship. Opening faceoff is set for 9:30 p.m. ET. The tournament, which is being staged in Calgary, Alberta, concludes on Aug. 31 with bronze and gold-medal games.The U.S. will play a pre-tournament game tomorrow (Aug. 18) at 2 p.m. ET against Russia. All Team USA games, including tomorrow’s pre-tournament contest, will be aired live in the U.S. on NHL Network. The U.S. roster features 14 players who helped the U.S. capture gold at the 2019 IIHF Women’s World Championship as well as 11 players who helped Team USA bring home gold at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang, South Korea.
