Mystical Mountain Lang, Sun Moon Lake, Nantou County
The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Australia in association with the ACT Library & Information Service will be presenting the “Taiwan Sublime” Photography and Taiwan Indigenous Culture Exhibitions from 23 August to 30 September, 2010, at Civic Library, Canberra City.

The “Taiwan Sublime” Photo Exhibition features various images captured by four Taiwanese photographers: namely Messrs Chen Chih-hsiung, Chi Po-lin, Liu Chen-hsiang, and Huang Ting-sheng. Chen’s photos illustrate the subtle contrast of light and dark hues which are typical in twilight scenery. Chi, on the other hand, is known for his aerial photography and various images of Taiwan’s changing landscape. Viewers who would like a taste of local Taiwanese culture will find Liu’s images of dance troupes and Huang’s snapshots of religious festivals a visual treat. Their photos encapsulate Taiwan’s landscapes, diverse cultural scenes, and different religious aspects.

In conjunction with the “Taiwan Sublime” Photo Exhibition, cultural artifacts of Taiwan Indigenous people such as cloth weaving, bamboo weaving, and assorted apparel and accessories will be showcased at the exhibition. The Indigenous handicrafts demonstrate the close relationship between the Taiwanese Indigenous people and the Austronesian culture.

The mix of contemporary photographs and traditional Indigenous crafts will offer a good opportunity for the audience to catch a glimpse of the way of life in Taiwan and allow the viewers to explore and appreciate the diversity of Taiwan’s culture and natural beauty.

An opening reception will be held at Civic Library at 3:00 pm on Monday, 23 August 2010, which will be co-hosted by Dr. Gary Song-huann Lin, the Representative of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in Australia, and Ms. Janice Biggin, the Manager, Library Services, of the ACT Library and Information Service.

Opening hours of the exhibition:
The exhibition is open from Monday 23 August to Thursday 30 September during library opening hours.
