Kuruc Joins Bears Women’s Hockey Staff

POTSDAM, N.Y.-SUNY Potsdam second-year women’s hockey coach Greg Haney has announced that Mike Kuruc will serve as assistant coach for the 2021-22 campaign.

Kuruc comes from the women’s Division I program at Syracuse University, where he served as a volunteer assistant for the 2020-21 season. With the Orange he assisted in designing and executing practice plans, along with handling travel and meal plans for the team.

Prior to Syracuse University, Kuruc was a graduate assistant for hockey operations and a goalie coach for the Division III men’s program at King’s College in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. During his time at King’s, he was responsible for designing and implementing goalie-specific training sessions. In addition, Kuruc helped with the distribution, management and repair of team equipment.

As a Syracuse undergrad, he held the position as a video coordinator/operations staff member for the Orange women’s hockey team for three seasons. While in this position, Kuruc used the XOS Thunder video system and disseminated program video. He was also a part of the 2019 College Hockey America (CHA) Championship run.

Kuruc was also a goaltender and team manager for the Syracuse men’s American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) program in each of his four years at the university. In addition to stopping pucks, Kuruc was also in charge of statistics, public address announcing, promotions and liaising with officials and visiting teams.

Kuruc holds a bachelor’s in sports management from Syracuse University. He also possesses a master’s in organizational leadership from Robert Morris University.
