OSWEGO, N.Y. – Oswego State (4-2-1, 2-2-1 NEWHL) scored three second period goals and defeated the SUNY Potsdam women’s hockey team (1-4-1, 0-3-1) 5-0 on Saturday afternoon. Bears sophomore goalie Ellie Zurfluh (Aravada, Colo./Team Colorado) made 48 saves in the contest.
The Lakers kept Zurfluh busy throughout the contest. The goaltender turned aside 19 shots in the opening 20 minutes.
No. 1 Plattsburgh State Women’s Ice Hockey Completes Series Sweep of SUNY Morrisville with 9-0 Victory
PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. — No. 1 Plattsburgh State women’s ice hockey completed a two-game Northeast Women’s Hockey League (NEWHL) series sweep with a 9-0 win over SUNY Morrisville on Saturday at the Ronald B. Stafford Ice Arena.
Seven different Cardinals scored as Plattsburgh State (6-0-0, 5-0-0 NEWHL) extended its NCAA Division III women’s ice hockey record home-winning streak to 44 games.
Plattsburgh State next hosts No. 10 Endicott College as part of the Cardinal/Panther Classic at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 27, at the Ronald B. Stafford Ice Arena. Morrisville (2-4-1, 1-3-1 NEWHL) plays at Hamilton College on Tuesday, Nov. 23, at 1 p.m.
Sophomore forward Mae Olshansky (Wilmette, Ill./North American Hockey Academy) scored her first two career goals and graduate student forward Annie Katonka (Pittsburgh, Pa./Pittsburgh Penguins Elite) scored twice. Senior forward Sara Krauseneck (Saginaw, Mich./Northern Cyclones) and first-year defenseman Mattie Norton (Glen Carbon, Ill./St. Louis Lady Blues) each tallied one goal and two assists for a game-high three points. Senior forward Nicole Unsworth (Milwaukee, Wis./East Coast Wizards) and graduate student forward Kaitlin Drew-Mead (Niagara Falls, N.Y./Buffalo Bisons) both tallied one goal and one assist for two points. Junior defenseman Kendall Wasik (Novi, Mich./HoneyBaked) tallied two assists.
Soaring Eagles Record Third Straight Shutout Following 1-0 Victory Against UMass Boston
BOSTON, MASS. – Emma Crocker ’21 netted the lone goal for the fifth-ranked Elmira College Women’s Hockey team as the Soaring Eagles defeated UMass Boston, 1-0 in overtime, on Saturday in New England Hockey Conference action.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Leonie-Louise Kuehberger ’25 would help keep the Beacons off of the scoreboard in the first period as the Elmira netminder turned away all 10 shots taken by UMass Boston. Kuehberger’s counterpart, Victoria Kennedy would make 13 saves of her own in the period to keep the game scoreless.
Both sides would have power-play opportunities in the second period with the Soaring Eagles going 0-for-2 and UMass Boston going 0-for-3. EC tallied a total of six shots on the power play, while the Beacons notched six shots on frame.
Heading to the third period scoreless, the Purple & Gold looked to increase the pressure on offense. Elmira tallied 14 shots on goal in the period but would not be able to find the back of the net. Kuehberger turned away all nine shots to keep the shutout alive EC.
Just over a minute into overtime, Crocker would chip the puck off the near boards and create a breakaway situation before going to the backhand to beat Kennedy and secure the 1-0 victory for the Soaring Eagles.
Kuehberger improved to 5-0-0 on the season for Elmira while notching a second shutout in net for the Soaring Eagles. Kuehberger finished with 34 saves in the contest for the Purple & Gold, while Crocker’s goal was the 54th of her career and now puts her at 120 points through 101 games played for Elmira.
Wildcats clip Herons 5-3
ATTLEBORO, Mass.—The William Smith College ice hockey team was edged by Johnson & Wales 5-3 in a New England Hockey Conference contest this afternoon. With the loss, the Herons are now 2-6-0 overall and 1-5-0 in conference play.
Mia LaPlante led the way for William Smith with two goals. Marykate Martino also scored for the Herons. Amanda Aalto started and played all 60 minutes in goal. She made 34 saves.
