CANISIUS MEN’S HOCKEY HAS WINNING STREAK HALTED BY MERCYHURST

Mercyhurst used goals from five different players to post a 5-2 victory over Canisius in Atlantic Hockey Association action Saturday at LECOM Harborcenter in downtown Buffalo.
 
Mickey Burns, Pierce Crawford, Kyler Head, Gueorgui Feduolov and Rylee St. Onge all scored for the Lakers (3-5-4, 2-3-4 AHA). Goaltender Kyle McClellan made 38 saves.
 
Juniors Ryan Miotto and Daniel DiGrande accounted for the two goals for the Golden Griffins (7-5-1, 4-2-0 AHA), who saw their four-game winning streak come to an end with Saturday’s setback. Junior Jacob Barczewski made 34 saves between the pipes.

SIXTH RANKED HOBART CRUISES PAST JOHNSON & WALES

GENEVA, N.Y.—The sixth-ranked Hobart College hockey team rolled to a 12-1 victory over Johnson & Wales in a New England Hockey Conference contest at The Cooler this afternoon. For the second-straight game, the Statesmen scored five goals in a period as it improved to 6-1-1 overall and 3-0-1 in NEHC play.
 
Hobart was led by captain Aaron Maguyon, who had four points on three goals and an assist. His hat trick matches the Hobart record for goals in a game. He is the second Statesman to have a hat trick this season. In total nine different players scored a goal and 16 different skaters found their way onto the scoresheet. Twelve Hobart players had multi-point games. Adam Dmyterko started and played all 60 minutes in goal. He made 16 saves.
 
All three goalies saw playing time for the Wildcats (2-4-0, 1-4-0). Jaxon Friedman started and made nine saves in the first period. Jake Perrin came on for the next 30 minutes and made 18 saves. Mike Camasso played the final 10 minutes and made one save.

RPI BATTLES TO 2-2 DRAW WITH LIU

EAST MEADOW, N.Y.  – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men’s hockey team came back twice to earn a 2-2 tie at Long Island University, on Saturday night at Northwell Health Ice Center. With the draw, the Engineers move to 6-5-2 overall, while the Sharks are now 2-7-3.

CORTLAND TOPS BROCKPORT

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Freshman Domenic Settimo (East Meadow/PAL Junior Islanders) scored back-to-back goals to break a 1-1 tie as the Cortland men’s hockey team skated to a 4-2 win versus Brockport Saturday night in SUNYAC action at Alumni Arena. The Red Dragons improved to 4-2-1 overall and 2-0-1-1-1 (8 points) in the SUNYAC. The Golden Eagles fell to 5-2 and 3-2 (6 points).

Sophomores Sutter Donegan (Cicero/Buffalo Jr. Sabres) and Cameron Knowlton (Kenai, AK/Charlotte Rush) added goals for Cortland. Freshman Anthony Bernardo (Hauppauge/PAL Junior Islanders) recorded two assists, and senior Michael Sciore (Syracuse/Buffalo Jr. Sabres), junior Nick Grupp (Depew/Brantford 99ers) and sophomore Liam Anderson (East York, ON/Pickering Panthers) each contributed an assist. Junior goalie Luca Durante (Brampton, ON/Aurora Tigers) made 25 saves.

Freshman Jacob King (Mississauga, ON/Oakville Blades) netted both of Brockport’s goals. Sophomore Connor Galloway (Sugar Hill, GA/Boston Jr. Rangers) collected two assists, and sophomore Andrew Harley (Brockport/East Coast Wizards) chipped in with one assist. Senior goalie Nolan Egbert (North Massapequa/UMass Boston) stopped 24 shots.

Plattsburgh State Men’s Ice Hockey Scores Three Third-Period Goals to Defeat Fredonia, 5-2

FREDONIA, N.Y. — Plattsburgh State Men’s Ice Hockey scored three goals in the third period to break a 2-2 tie and defeat Fredonia, 5-2, in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) game on Saturday night at Steele Hall Ice Arena.

Plattsburgh State (4-3-1, 3-2-1 SUNYAC) next faces No. 4 Norwich University on Friday, Nov. 26, as part of the FirstLight Shootout in Middlebury, Vt. Fredonia (4-3-0, 2-1-0 SUNYAC) plays a non-conference game at Nazareth on Tuesday, Nov. 23, at 7 p.m.

Each team scored once in the first period to make the score 1-1 after 20:00 of play.

Plattsburgh State took a 1-0 lead when junior forward Adam Tretowicz (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Buffalo Jr. Sabres) scored a power-play goal at 15:26 of the first period. After an initial shot by sophomore forward Trey Thomas (Williams Lake, British Columbia/Brooks Bandits) was saved, Tretowicz knocked in the rebound for the goal. First-year defenseman Jack Ring (Hingham, Mass./Northeast Generals) tallied the secondary assist.

Less than a minute later, first-year forward Johnny Malandruccolo scored for Fredonia on a back-door play at 16:23 of the first period. Sophomore forward David Sudbrink and sophomore defenseman Kurri Woodford garnered the assists on the goal that tied the score at 1-1. 

In the second period, each team scored a power-play goal to make the score 2-2 going into the second intermission.

Sophomore forward Joey Mancuso (Pottstown, Pa./Connecticut Jr. Rangers) scored a power-play goal on a one-timer from the left circle to give Plattsburgh State a 2-1 lead at 13:55 of the second period. Tretowicz and Ring assisted on the play.

Woodford scored for Fredonia on the power-play at 18:42 with a screened wrist shot from the left circle to tie the score at 2-2. Sophomore forward Jake Blackwell garnered the assist.

The Cardinals scored three unanswered goals in the third period to complete the 5-2 victory. 

Sophomore forward Bennett Stockdale (Ottawa, Ontario/Alabama Huntsville) scored the game-winning goal on the power play 21 seconds into the third period. An initial shot from the point by junior defenseman Ryan Hogg (Duncan, British Columbia/Islanders Hockey Club) was saved. However, junior forward Hunter Alden (Walla Walla, Wash./Northeast Generals) got to the rebound and passed the puck to Stockdale, who scored with a wrist shot from the left circle to make the score 3-2.

At 3:27 of the third period, junior forward Mitchell Hale (Oakfield, N.Y./Johnstown Tomahawks) scored on a sharp-angled wrist shot from the left circle to make the score 4-2.

First-year forward Jake Lanyi (North Salem, N.Y./Connecticut Jr. Rangers) made the score 5-2 with his second goal of the season on the power play at 15:34 of the third period. Lanyi finished off a rush with a shot from the slot into the upper-right corner of the net. Sophomore forward Thomas Maia (Mississauga, Ontario/Nanaimo Clippers) garnered the primary assist.

Sophomore goaltender Anthony Del Tufo (Livingston, N.J./Philadelphia Revolution) improved to 4-3-1 on the season with a 23-save performance for Plattsburgh State.   

Sophomore goaltender Logan Dyck (4-3-0) made 40 saves for Fredonia. 

FRAZEE’S HAT TRICK LEADS BENGALS TO WIN OVER POTSDAM

BUFFALO, NY — Joel Frazee (Monroe MI/Shreveport Mudbugs) scored a hat trick for the Buffalo State men’s hockey team, as the Bengals got back on track with a 7-1 thrashing of Potsdam on Saturday evening at the Ice Arena.

  • Frazee’s three goals bring his season total to four, the most on Buffalo State this year.
  • Connor Minch (Manchester, NH/Islanders Hockey Club) stopped 28 shots in goal, earning his first victory of the season.
  • Bryan Colburn (Cumberland, RI/Johnson & Wales) and Hayden Ford (Medford, NJ/Philadelphia Revolution) each recorded two assists, while Colburn also won 13 of 17 faceoffs.
