SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. — Commissioner of Public Works Anthony “Skip” Scirocco announced a partnership with Skidmore College for improvements at the City-owned ice rinks.

Memorialized in a license agreement that was approved at a recent City Council meeting, Skidmore College was authorized to build a new hockey locker facility at the Weibel Ice Rink and provide more than $600,000 to the City for license fees and improvements to the rink complex.

“This is a great opportunity for the City and Skidmore to work together and improve the City’s recreation facilities,” Scirocco said.

“We’ve been working toward this for awhile, and knowing that the Skidmore College hockey teams will continue to use our City rink as their home ice solidifies how Skidmore and the City of Saratoga Springs are dedicated to working together for the good of both our community and their students,” Scirocco noted.Top ArticlesGator's Barks n Bubbles Self-Service Dog Wash hosts grand opening in Burnt HillsTonko named 2020 Humane Horseman of the YearSaratoga County Fair wraps up 'terrific' four-day festivalRonald McDonald House opens family retreat at Krantz CottageREAD MOREBrendan's Lemonade Stand raising funds for Saratoga County Fair's new grandstandHigh-speed electric vehicle charging stations coming to Stewart's ShopsRonald McDonald House opens family retreat atKrantz Cottagehttps://imasdk.googleapis.com/js/core/bridge3.489.0_en.html#goog_1010063602https://imasdk.googleapis.com/js/core/bridge3.489.0_en.html#goog_1403072342https://imasdk.googleapis.com/js/core/bridge3.489.0_en.html#goog_154099896Ronald McDonald House opens family retreat at Krantz Cottage

“Skidmore is very pleased to partner with the City, and we express our appreciation to everyone on the City Council and particularly Commissioner Scirocco for his hard work and cooperation,” Donna Ng, vice president for finance and administration and treasurer at Skidmore College commented.

“The partnership between the City and Skidmore will benefit all of us,” Ng added.

Under the agreement, Skidmore is granted a license for 3,124 feet of land adjacent to the Weibel Rink, for a period of 10 years, to construct new locker room facilities. The College is authorized to construct the new locker room facility at their own expense and will maintain the area and cover the cost of all utilities during the term of the license agreement. Skidmore can opt to renew the license agreement for an additional 10 years, and at the expiration of the agreement, the space will be turned back over to the City.

The City will receive a public benefit in the form of $300,000 (net present value) broken into yearly installments for 10 years, along with an additional $310,000 invested over the first three years of the agreement specifically for improvements to the ice rink facilities. The planned improvements will include the installation of a new traffic light at the rink entrance, upgrades for both the Weibel and Vernon rink lobbies, and other projects determined by the City in consultation with Skidmore.

“This is a win-win for both Skidmore and the City, especially those users of the rink for our recreation programs. I want to thank Skidmore for their cooperation, and acknowledge the work of DPW and the Mayor’s Office staff for making this a reality,” Scirocco added.
