A little late getting this out but the WNYGVIH Federation has had a very busy week concluding with the First WNY Girls High School Showcase.

The Showcase was to have included Kenmore/Grand Island, Niagara County, East and Plattsburgh. At the last moment Plattsburgh could not make the trip so Clarence/Amherst/Sweet Home stepped in.

The puck dropped Friday afternoon at Cornerstone with CASH and KGI playing to a 4-4 tie in overtime. Allison Green had a hatrick and Isabella Clary scored the fourth goal for CASH. For KGI it was Isabelle Bourgeault, Madison Flory, Juliet Chadima and Carissa Buyea dropping the puck in the net. In goal were CASH’s Kylie Paige and for KGI, Samantha Horne.

East made their Western debut, and played their first game of the 2021-22 season against Niagara County with the home team handing East a 7-0 shutout. NiCo Captain Kayla Persinger had a hat-trick in that game and Mariela Mulready gets the shutout.

Saturday afternoon East faced KGI and faced another shutout, 4-0. Scoring for KGI were Juliet Chadima, Isabella Jayme, Megan Pinzel and Kiley Turnbull. Jordan Hofschneider had the shutout win for KGI, in her first appearance this season. In goal for East was Sienna Kay.

Using a point system that put KGI and Niagara County into the final round. It was determined that since the two teams would face each other on Monday night at Hyde Park, they would use that game to determine a winner and East could return home (having to drive in those high winds).

It was KGI over Niagara County, another shutout, 1-0 on Monday and KGI took the winning title with Carolyn Bourgeault getting the MVP award for her goaltending.

Back to regular season play, on December 6 Niagara County shutout St. Marys of Lancaster 4-0; Monsignor Martin shutout Williamsville 3-0. Goalies in net for Nico, Mulready and for MM, Sophia Will. Trinity Kehoe had her first varsity goal in the Monsignor Martin win.

LID and CASH skated to a 1-1 overtime tie on Tuesday and KGI beat HEWS 5-1.

Monsignor Martin upset HEWS 6-0 at West Seneca on Wednesday evening.

With four games on tap for Thursday, it was Williamsville 5-3 over LID; CASH a 4-0 shutout over St. Mary’s of Lancaster, FLOP handing HEWS at 5-1 loss and Monsignor Martin beating KGI 3-2.

Aizah Roze-Thompson, Isabella Jayme, Sydney Radecki and Cam Brownschidle lead the scoring in the league with some great goaltenders making their marks including Leia Schneid, Sophia Will, Mariela Mulready and Kerrigan McCarthy.

At the end of December 10 Williamsville and Monsignor Martin are vying for that top position in the League.
