The William Smith ice hockey team will continue its road trip Friday, Jan. 7, when it heads east to take on seventh-ranked Norwich. The Herons will take on the Cadets Friday at 6 p.m.
William Smith was also scheduled to take on New England College on Saturday, Jan. 8, but that game was postponed due to COVID protocols within the Pilgrims’ program. A makeup date has not yet been set.
William Smith wrapped up the first half of the season with a 3-10-1 overall record and a 2-5-1 mark in New England Hockey Conference play. The Herons are seventh in the conference standings with eight points. William Smith is looking to rebound from a pair of losses to Williams College to close out 2021.
The Herons are led by Mia LaPlante’s four goals and six points. Emily Martino (2g, 3a) is right behind her with five points. All three goalies have seen action this season. Amanda Aalto has played the most minutes. She is 2-4-1 with a 2.75 goals against average and a .918 save percentage. Erin Murray is 1-4-0 with a 2.72 GAA and a .930 save percentage.
The Cadets are 7-3-0 this season with a 6-0-0 mark in conference play. Norwich is second in the NEHC with 17 points. Julia Masotta leads the team with 13 points on seven goals and six assists. Mikah Baptiste (7g, 5a) and Ann-Frederique Guay (6g, 6a) are right behind her with 12 points each. Alexa Berg has played a majority of the minutes in goal. She is 4-3-0 with a 1.72 GAA and a .933 save percentage.
Friday’s game will be the first meeting between William Smith and Norwich.
Spectators are welcome at Kreitzberg Arena, but all fans, regardless of COVID vaccination status, are required to wear a properly fitting mask over their mouth and nose.
