ITHACA, N.Y. — As a key contributor of the Cornell women’s hockey team’s five unanswered goals to topple defending CHA regular-season champion on Tuesday, freshman forward Leah MacSween was announced Monday as the ECAC Hockey Driscoll Skating and Skills Player of the Week.

MacSween collected three assists on the Big Red’s offensive outburst to turn a 1-1 tie into a 6-1 cushion over a span of just 17 minutes, 11 seconds during the second and third periods. It doubled MacSween’s collegiate point total, giving her six points — all on assists — through her first 13 collegiate games.

The win over Penn State marked Cornell’s highest offensive output of the season for a second straight game — following a 5-0 shutout of Dartmouth on Jan. 8.

This marks the second straight week in which the Big Red laid claim to the league’s top weekly honor for a skater, with junior forward Izzy Daniel having earned the honor on Jan. 10. It was MacSween’s first weekly award from ECAC Hockey.
