ROCHESTER, NY – Freshman defenseman Adam Brubacher (Elmira, Ontario/Powell River Kings) of the RIT men’s hockey team, was named to the 2016-17 Atlantic Hockey Conference Gladiator Custom Mouthguards All-Rookie Team on Friday, March 3.
Brubacher has enjoyed a tremendous first season for the Tigers, having appeared in all 34 games, recording 20 points on six goals and 14 assists, while playing at a plus-5. All 20 of his points came in Atlantic Hockey play, tying him the league lead among all rookies in scoring. In addition, he was tied for second among all defensemen in scoring during league play. Overall, Brubacher leads all RIT defensemen and is tied for third on the team in scoring.
On Dec. 2 Brubacher recorded a career-high three points in a win over Niagara. Brubacher, who scored a goal in each of his first two collegiate games against Robert Morris, has had three multiple-point outings in 2016-17. Brubacher is tied for the team leading with three game-winning goals and is second on RIT with 49 blocked shots. He scored the overtime winner in a 2-1 victory over Holy Cross on Feb. 11.
It is the third straight season that a Tiger player has earned All-Rookie Team honors (Brady Norrish (Strongfield, Saskatchewan/Yorkton Terriers), 2014-15 and Gabe Valenzuela (Brampton, Ontario/North York Rangers), 2015-16).
RIT, the No. 6 seed in the 2017 Atlantic Hockey Tournament, begins the quest for its third straight league championship by hosting No. 11 seed Niagara University in a best-of-three first round series this weekend from the Gene Polisseni Center. Game one is tonight at 7:05 p.m., while game two is Saturday, also at 7:05 p.m. If necessary, game three will be Sunday night at 7:05 p.m.
