HAMILTON – Colgate women’s ice hockey freshman defenseman Livia Altmann (Arosa, Switzerland) will compete for the Switzerland National Team at the 2017 IIHF Women’s World Championships at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, Michigan from March 31 through April 7.
Switzerland will compete in Group B with the Czech Republic, Germany and Sweden at the world championships. The Swiss open the tournament with the first game at 12 p.m. on Friday in the main rink before taking on Sweden at 6 p.m. on Saturday in the secondary rink. After an off day on Sunday, Switzerland will close the preliminary round against Germany at 12 p.m. on Monday.
Following the preliminary round will be relegation rounds and the quarterfinals and semifinals next Tuesday and Thursday before the medal games on Friday, April 7.
Altmann most recently played with the Swiss National Team in Olympic qualifying, with Switzerland going a perfect 3-0 in beating Denmark, Norway and the Czech Republic to qualify for the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea.
In her career, Altmann won the bronze medal at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. This will also Altmann’s fourth women’s world championships with Switzerland and she is coming off a great performance in 2016 with a pair of assists leading to her nomination as one of the top three players on the team in the tournament.
Altmann recorded five points on two goals and three assists in her first season for the Raiders in 2016-17. Altmann played in 32 games for Colgate with both of her goals standing as game-winners at both Union and Dartmouth. The Raiders were a perfect 5-0-0 when Altmann had a point, including during her three-game point streak from Jan. 27 through Feb. 3.
