(Rochester, NY) – Rochester Americans General Manager Randy Sexton announced today that the team has signed defenseman Conor Allen and forward Sahir Gill to one-year American Hockey League contracts.
Allen, 27, recorded 11 points (1+10) in 56 games with Grand Rapids Griffins last season while helping the team to a Calder Cup championship this past spring. A native of Chicago, Ill., Allen has totaled 90 points (21+69) in 267 career AHL games with Connecticut, Hartford, Iowa, Binghamton, Milwaukee and Grand Rapids. He posted his best season as a pro during the 2014-15 campaign when he set career-highs in goals (11), assists (23) and points (34) to rank among the AHL’s top scoring defensemen. Allen has also appeared in seven NHL games for the New York Rangers.
Prior to turning pro, the 6-foot-1, 205-pound blueliner played three seasons at UMass-Amherst (H-East), where he registered 39 points (14+25) in 99 games for the Minutemen. As a junior, Allen appeared in 33 of the team’s 34 games and contributed 19 points on five goals and 14 assists to finish eighth in scoring among Hockey East defensemen.
Gill, 25, completed his third season with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in 2016-17, posting career-highs in goals (6), assists (12) and points (18) in addition to 33 shots and a plus-six rating in 44 games. In 102 career AHL contests with Hamilton and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Gill has amassed 39 points on 14 goals and 25 assists and has appeared in four postseason contests with the Penguins.
Before joining the pro ranks, the 5-foot-11, 185-pound native of Terrace, British Columbia, compiled 78 points (28+50) over three seasons at Boston University (H-East) and helped the Vernon Vipers of the British Columbia Hockey league to back-to-back RBC CUP titles.
