(Rochester, NY) – The Rochester Americans announced that the team has signed forwards Eric Cornel and Stu Wilson to Amateur Tryouts (ATO).
Cornel, 19, recently completed his fourth season in Peterborough, where he recorded a career-high 83 points (27+56) in 68 games while serving as team captain. A native of Kemptville, Ontario, he finished tied for 13th in the OHL in scoring and ranked eighth in the league with a team-high 56 assists before adding five points (1+4) in seven playoff contests. In 265 career OHL games with the Petes, the 6-foot-2, 195-pound forward has registered 213 points (70+143) and 91 penalty minutes.
A second-round pick (44th overall) of the Buffalo Sabres in 2014, Cornel joined the Amerks for six games at the end of the 2014-15 campaign, recording one assist.
Wilson, 24, a Rochester native, joins the Amerks after posting a career-high 26 points (8+18) and eight penalty minutes in 31 games during his senior year at Yale University, earning him a selection to the All-Ivy League First Team. During the 2012-13 campaign, Wilson led all Yale freshmen with 17 points (9+8) in all 37 games while helping the Bulldogs to their first-ever NCAA National Championship. In 132 career games at Yale, the 5-foot-10, 170-pound Wilson amassed 69 points (27+42) and was a three-time Ivy League champion during his four seasons with the Bulldogs.
