Amerks Sign Matt Ellis To One-Year AHL Contract

(Rochester, NY)… The Rochester Americans announced today that the team has signed forward Matt Ellis to a one-year American Hockey League contract.
Ellis, 33, appeared in 39 NHL games with the Buffalo Sabres last season, recording two points (1+1) and four penalty minutes. He also registered 13 points (7+6) in 38 AHL games with the Amerks last season. Ellis has collected 25 points (19+16) and 18 penalty minutes in 95 games over three seasons with Rochester. In 286 games with the Sabres over parts of seven seasons, the 6-foot, 208-pound Ellis has recorded 41 points (18+23) and 57 penalty minutes.

A native of Welland, Ontario, Ellis has played in 356 career NHL games with the Detroit Red Wings, Los Angeles Kings and Sabres, totaling 49 points (21+28) and 89 penalty minutes. In 441 career AHL games with the Grand Rapids Griffins, Portland Pirates and Amerks, he has registered 223 points (100+123) and 221 penalty minutes.
