(Rochester, NY)… The Rochester Americans announced today the team will honor the RIT Tigers men’s and women’s hockey teams for their successful seasons during the Amerks game on Friday, April 10 against the Toronto Marlies at 7:05 p.m. at The Blue Cross Arena.

RIT students, alumni, faculty and staff can purchase tickets to the Amerks game for just $10 at www.amerks.com/RIT.

Led by current Amerk Matt Garbowsky, who is expected to make his home debut for the team on Friday, the RIT men’s hockey team advanced to the NCAA Midwest Regional Final after defeating top-ranked Minnesota St. in the opening round of the tournament. Garbowsky, who helped lead RIT to the team’s first Atlantic Hockey Conference championship since 2010, was one of 10 finalists for the Hobey Baker Award and was named Atlantic Hockey’s Player of the Year and Defensive Forward of the Year while scoring a Division I school-record 54 points. This was the second appearance in the NCAA Division I tournament in program history.

The RIT women’s hockey team made its first ever appearance in the NCAA Division I tournament since moving up in 2012 and appeared in the Division I Quarterfinals against top-seed and eventual national champion Minnesota. RIT advanced to the NCAA Tournament after winning the College Hockey America (CHA) championship by knocking off each of the top three seeds. Goaltender Ali Binnington was named the CHA Tournament Most Valuable Player for the second straight season.

Members of the men’s and women’s teams will be introduced during the first intermission of Friday’s Amerks game by RIT hockey public address announcer Rocky Perrotta while members of the famed RIT “Corner Crew” and Pep Band will also be in attendance.
