WINTHROP, Mass. – Niagara freshman Robert Angiolella was named Travel Team USA Co-Rookie of the Week by the Atlantic Hockey Association on Tuesday.
After missing eight games due to injury, Angiolella returned to the ice for the Purple Eagles last week against Canisius and added three points on Saturday. He opened the scoring for Niagara with a power-play goal in the first period that tied the score at 1-1. He added an assist in the third with his team trailing by two and killing a penalty, the freshman found a streaking Kevin Patterson in the slot to cut the lead to 4-3. He scored his second and final goal of the night with 38 seconds left and the goalie pulled. Angiolella posted-up on the doorstep and fought off a defender to cut the deficit to 5-4.
After Saturday’s performance, he now leads the team with seven goals and is tied for the team lead with 11 points.
The Purple Eagles are back on the ice this weekend when they heed to Worcester, Massachusetts for games on Friday and Saturday.
