Around NYS Girls Varsity Ice Hockey

The Oswego women’s hockey team is winding down their 2021-22 season.

They beat Ithaca 7-2 early in January with Natalie Miller, Alyssa Carr, K. Wincheck, Nealy Pippin, Jordan Caroccio and M Palmitesso scoring. Pippin had two goals and two assists; Caroccio a goal and an assist and Palmitesso with a goal and an assist. Other assists came from Amanda Connelly, and two each from Alaena DiBlasi and Rosie Wallace. Chelsea Storms made 5/6 saves and Nyah Dawson took the win with 21 on 22.

They lost 4-0 to Clinton a week later.

On January 24 they took another win, that one a  3-2 against Canton. Scoring were Miller, Pippin and Isabelle Dobson with assists from DiBlasi, Caroccio and Zoey DeRucha. Dawson took the win with 15 saves on 15 shots in 30 minutes and Storms served as a backup with 8 of 9 saves in 15 minutes.

Most recently they lost 7-1 to NYS high school girls varsity powerhouse Skaneateles. Oswego’s lone goal came from DiBlasi with assists from Dobson and Palmitesso. Storms was in for 22 minutes and Dawson for 23 minutes making 18 saves on 25 shots.

With the win, Skaneateles heads to the Sectional Finals.

Oswego, in Section III, are in third place with Clinton and Skaneateles in the top two seeded positions. As of last week Clinton had 16.5 points and Skaneateles 7.5.

Clinton beat Ithaca 3-1 in Section III on Thursday, January 27. This was the first game in playoff action in that Division.

In the Ithaca game it was Nardslico with a goal and assist; Kurdziolek with a goal and assists for Elbrecht and Gretchen Grimm. With that win Clinton heads to the Section III Semifinals.

In Section X play Massena, Canton and Potsdam are tied with 12 points each, vying for that number one position. Alexandria-Thousand Islands sits alone at last. Massena beat Alex Bay/TI 7-4 in league play, and beat Plattsburgh 5-3 in non-league action.

Malone is currently first with 16.5 points in Section VI play with Plattsburgh behind them by 3 points. Saranac/LakePlacid has 5 points and Beekmantown has 1.

In Section I the East Green Wave beat Saranac/Lake Placid 8-0 with 8th Grader Kay Sienna getting her first varsity shutout in goal. In the first game of that series, the Wave beat SLP 4-2.
