After leading the Canisius College hockey team to a quarterfinal sweep of Sacred Heart in the Atlantic Hockey Tournament, senior Keegan Asmundson (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) collected the league’s Goaltender of the Week accolades for the second time this season.
The senior netminder stopped 51-of-52 shots in the two victories against the Pioneers, posting a 0.50 goals against average and .981 save percentage. In a game one victory, Asmundson stopped all 19 shots he faced for his second shutout of the season. He then followed up with a 32-save performance in a 2-1 victory during game two to send the Griffs to the Atlantic Hockey Semifinals for the third-straight campaign.
Asmundson ranks eighth nationally with a 1.96 goals against average and 11th with a .930 save percentage this season – both marks currently stand as the best in the program’s record book. The senior has been at his best during the second half of the season to lead Canisius to its best regular-season finish in program history. Since Jan. 9, Asmundson owns an 11-2-1 record in 14 starts, ranking first in the country with a 1.34 goals against average and second with a .949 save percentage.
In addition to his two weekly honors, Asmundson has also collected Atlantic Hockey Goaltender of the Month accolades in both January and February.
Asmundson and the Griffs look to continue their playoff run with a semifinal contest on Friday. Second-seeded Canisius plays third-seeded RIT at approximately 8:35 p.m. in Rochester’s Blue Cross Arena.
