For the second-straight month, senior Keegan Asmundson of the Canisius College hockey team was selected as Atlantic Hockey Goaltender of the Month, announced by the league on Thursday.
In six February starts, Asmundson posted a 1.49 goals against average and .943 save percentage. He finished the month with a career-best four-game winning streak to help the Griffs secure the second seed for the Atlantic Hockey Tournament, matching the best finish in program history.
The senior netminder posted a 1.89 goals against average in Atlantic Hockey games this season, the top mark in the league. Overall, Asmundson anchored the top scoring defense in the conference with a 2.09 goals against average and .931 save percentage in 23 appearances. He was especially strong in the second half of the season as he posted a 9-2-1 record, 1.48 goals against average and .944 save percentage in his final 12 starts of the season.
Asmundson is the first goalie in the league to earn the monthly accolade twice this season.
Asmundson and the Griffs received the second seed for the Atlantic Hockey Tournament and after a bye in the first round, Canisius is slated to host a best 2-of-3 quarterfinal series from March 13 to 15. The series against an opponent to be determined will begin on Friday, March 13 with a 7:35 p.m. start at HARBORCENTER.
