The anchor of the streaking Canisius College hockey team’s defense, senior Keegan Asmundson (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) picked up Atlantic Hockey Goaltender of the Week honors, announced by the conference on Tuesday.

In a pair of games against one of the top offenses in the league, Asmundson posted a 0.96 goals against average and .963 save percentage as Canisius took 3-of-4 points versus Bentley. The senior stopped 34 shots in Friday’s 2-2 draw before responding with 18 saves in a 2-0 win on Saturday for his first shutout of the season.

Earning the accolade for the third time in his career, Asmundson has backstopped the Griffs to second place in the Atlantic Hockey standings this season. He owns a 2.29 goals against average and .921 save percentage in 15 games during his senior campaign, including a 2.00 goals against average and .928 save percentage in league play.

During the Griffs’ current five-game unbeaten streak – the team’s longest in the regular season since the 2009-10 season – Asmundson owns a 0.98 goals against average and .961 save percentage.

Asmundson and Canisius look to continue their winnings ways with a road series against Battle of the Bridge rival Niagara during the week. The schools are set to meet on Thursday and Saturday in Lewiston at 7:05 p.m.
