Batherson Garners CHA Rookie of the Week Honors
Freshman defender’s two goals put her in the conference spotlight
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse ice hockey freshman defender Mae Batherson is the College Hockey America (CHA) Rookie of the Week, after a two-goal, one-assist weekend against RIT.
Batherson registered her first point of the weekend partway through game one against the Tigers Friday night after earning the primary assist on junior Victoria Klimek’s goal. Batherson then recorded her first collegiate lamp lighter one minute into the third period off a laser from the blue line that gave Syracuse a 4-3 edge over RIT.
The New Minas, Nova Scotia native followed up her performance Saturday with a power-play goal halfway through the middle period. The scoring play put the Orange up 1-0 and set up Syracuse’s 3-0 shutout victory.
Batherson is the second Orange this season to be recognized by the conference. Batherson’s defensive partner Jessica DiGirolamo was named Player of the Week on Oct. 7 after scoring one goal and getting two assists against No. 7 Boston College.
