BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – The Binghamton Senators were shut out 4-0 by the Hershey Bears in their first meeting of the season at the Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena.
Mike Moore notched his third goal of the year with a slap shot from the right point that maneuvered through a crowd and past Chris Driedger to give the Bears the 1-0 lead 11:15 into the first. Hershey outshot their hosts 14-12 in the opening 20 minutes of play to take the one-goal advantage into the game’s first intermission.
Hershey increased their lead to 4-0 after scoring three goals just 5:31 apart in the second period. Chris Bourque notched his 19th goal of the season at the 10:13 mark and moved into a tie for the league’s lead in goals. Scott Gomez tallied his first career American Hockey League goal less than four minutes later to move the score to 3-0. Travis Boyd made it 4-0 for the visitors off of his eighth tally of the year with less than five minutes to play. Hershey outshot Binghamton 15-4 in the period.
Binghamton failed to make anything off 14 shots in the final 20 minutes and Hershey took the win despite only having two shots on goal in the period.
Dan Ellis stopped all 31 shots faced to earn the shutout while Driedger had 27 saves in the losing effort.
