Bears fall to Lakers

OSWEGO, N.Y.-Oswego State (5-2, 4-2 SUNYAC) scored four power-play goals en route to a 7-1 victory over the SUNY Potsdam men’s hockey team (2-7, 0-6) on Friday night. Shawn Hulshof scored two goals to lead the Lakers. Senior captain Mike Arnold (Didsbury, Alberta/Kingston Voyageurs) scored for the Bears.

Matt Galati put Oswego up for good just 2:12 into the contest. Under five minutes later, Hulshof scored the eventual game-winner on the power play. Hulshof notched his second on the Lakers’ second man advantage at the 13:20 mark and Oswego took a 3-0 lead into the intermission.

Arnold gave Potsdam life with his tally at 7:12 of the middle period to cut the gap to 3-1. Sophomore forward Todd Thomas(Davidsville, Pa./Hartford Wolfpack) and freshman forwardTommy Telesca (Selden, N.Y./New York Bobcats) assisted on the goal. The momentum was short lived as Stephen Johnson scored at 10:50 to give the Lakers their four-goal lead back. Dylan Smith buried an unassisted power-play goal with just 37 seconds left to give Oswego a 5-1 advantage after 40 minutes.

Alex Botten struck on the power play at 6:30 of the third period to finish Potsdam sophomore goalie Austin Keiser‘s (Dunwoody, Ga./Boston Bulldogs) night. Less than three minutes later, David Titanic capped the scoring with a shorthanded marker for the 7-1 final.

Keiser made 35 saves on 36 shots in the first 46:30. SeniorShane Talarico (Greensburg, Pa./Elmira College) allowed one goal on 14 shots over the final 13:30. Oswego goalie Matt Zawadzki stopped 26 shots to earn his third win of the season.

Potsdam was 0-3 on the power play and the Lakers went 4-10

The Bears look to close the semester on a strong note with a 7 p.m. battle at Cortland. Potsdam swept the season series from the Red Dragons last year.
