TROY, N.Y. – ECAC Hockey has announced its weekly award winners and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athlete John Beaton was named Rookie of the Week after the Engineers went 1-0-1 last week.
A sophomore center from Stittsville, Ont., Beaton led the Engineers in goals (2) and shots (11) last week, while posting a +1 rating. He opened the weekend by netting the first two goals of his collegiate career in a 7-2 victory over LIU on Friday at the Houston Field House. He then registered a team-high six shots in RPI’s 2-2 tie at the Sharks on Saturday.
Beaton has played in 12 of the team’s 13 games this season, recording two goals and four assists for six points. Compiling a +1 rating, the former Youngstown Phantoms standout has one power play tally, 21 shots and two minor penalties for four minutes. He has blocked five shots at the defensive end.
In six ECAC Hockey contests, Beaton has two assists for two points, with nine shots and a -1 rating. He had a two-assist game in RPI’s 6-2 victory over Canisius College on October 15.
The Engineers are back in action on Friday, when they host No. 18 Northeastern at the Houston Field House (7pm).
