BUFFALO, N.Y. — The NWHL today announced that Buffalo Beauts goaltender Shannon Szabadoshas been selected as a finalist for the Goaltender of the Year media award. The award was voted on by 20 media members and broadcasters in cooperation with the Women’s Hockey Media Association.
Szabados finished the 2018-19 season with the best goals-against average (1.49) and the second-best save percentage (.934) among all NWHL goaltenders, also posting a 6-3-1 record and two shutouts. In her first NWHL season, Szabados has already earned accolades for her play with the Beauts. She served as one of two team captains at the NWHL All-Star Game in Nashville, winning All-Star MVP honors following a 3-2 shootout victory for Team Szabados in which she stopped every shot faced in 25 minutes of action.
In February, she was selected by her teammates as the season’s Most Valuable Beaut, an award presented to her on Fan Appreciation Night before the team’s final home game of the regular season at Harborcenter.
Winners of all NWHL media awards will be announced after this year’s Isobel Cup Final.
