BUFFALO, NY– At this Sunday’s 3:30PM matchup between the Buffalo Beauts and the undefeated Connecticut Whale, there will be more than a hockey game taking place at the HarborCenter. The Beauts have joined forces with the Food Bank of Western New York and the Goodwill of Western New York to sponsor a Canned Food and Coat Drive at their game.

The Food Bank of Western New York was incorporated under the name ‘Community Food Center of Western New York’ in 1981. Since then, the corporation has developed numerous programs, from nutritional to educational, and have even found a way to collect and distribute perishable foods for those in need via refrigerated truck.

The Goodwill of Western New York serves people of all age, race, spiritual beliefs, gender, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, language, marital status, national origin, veteran status, handicap, or disability. Those involved receive assistance from their many programs that they have tailored to serve their specific needs– from veteran services to career and employment services.

“We are very proud to partner with a group of young women who are living their dream and playing professional hockey in a league of their own,” said Goodwill (WNY) Marketing & Community Relations Manager Linda Maraszek.

“Through this donation drive, many of our disabled and disadvantaged clients will be able to realize their dreams too,” she continued.

“When people donate clothing during the Beauts’ drive, they are supporting the job training programs that help the individuals we serve find and keep jobs right here in Western New York.”

NWHL fans who attend this weekend are encouraged to bring canned food, warm winter coats, and other items with them to the game to donate in order to help families in the Buffalo area that are in need. Each can of food donated will be stocked in pantries for the hungry, and winter clothing will be sold at Goodwill locations throughout Western New York.

The Beauts will be offering special promotions to any fans who bring supplies to donate at the Canned Food and Coat Drive this weekend: if any fan brings more than five cans of food or donates a coat or cold weather item at the game, they will be eligible to get 33% off a future NWHL ticket purchase.
