New York, NY – July 13, 2015: The NWHL (National Women’s Hockey League) announced today the signing of two players to the Buffalo Beauts, Lindsay Grigg (Rochester Institute of Technology) and Kelly McDonald (University of Maine). Lindsay Grigg attended the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) from 2011 to 2014, where she served as team captain and played as a forward and defenseman for the Tigers.
In the 2013-2014 season, the Oakville, Ontario, Canada native led RIT with 21 points (3g, 18a) and tied the single season team record by appearing in all 38 games. She was selected to the All- College Hockey America Second Team and to the CHA Championship All-Tournament Team. Grigg set a school record in 2014 with 127 blocks, with a career-high of 12 against Mercyhurst University at the CHA Championship game.
Before playing at RIT, Grigg played the 2010-2011 season serving as team captain of the Oakville Hornets of the Provincial Women’s Hockey League (PWHL).
“It is such an amazing feeling being given the chance to continue to play the game I love following college,” said Grigg. “This is something that will be a part of history and I can’t wait to see the future of the league.”
Kelly McDonald grew up in Ancaster, Ontario, Canada and attended college at the University of Maine, where she served as the Black Bears captain. During the 2013-2014 season, McDonald played in 29 games, leading the team with 7 assists.
In her first two seasons with the Black Bears, McDonald appeared in all 34 games and ended her sophomore season with a +14 rating. She was named to the 2010-2011 and 2011-2012 Hockey East All-Academic Teams, was named the 2011 Rising Star, and was the recipient of the Maine Scholar Athlete Award.
“To have the chance to compete against some of the best talent in the world again is an amazing opportunity. I look forward to the challenges and successes that are to come,” said McDonald. “I feel very fortunate and excited to be a part of history in this inaugural season. This is a pivotal time for women’s hockey and I am honored to have this opportunity to help grow the game. I am confident that the NWHL will emerge as the elite league for women’s hockey in the world.”
