Megan Delay, 2018 Clarkson Cup Champion with Markham, Signs with the Buffalo Beauts
August 1, 2019 – Defender Megan Delay this morning signed an NWHL contract to play the upcoming season with the Buffalo Beauts. The native of Niagara Falls, Ontario was a member of the 2018 Clarkson Cup champion Markham Thunder of the Canadian Women’s Hockey League.
“I’m looking forward to a great season as a Beaut,” said Delay, who turned 22 in April. “Playing in the NWHL and for Buffalo is an incredible situation for me – living across the pond at home and playing with and against great players. I can’t wait for the season to start.”
Before playing 21 games as a rookie with Markham in their CWHL title season in 2017-18, Delay was a standout on the 2016 NCAA national championship team at SUNY-Plattsburgh. Previously, she played at Brock University and for the Burlington Barracudas.
“Megan has demonstrated a steady development in her career, and I’m confident her time to shine is now with the Beauts,” said Buffalo head coach Pete Perram.
Buffalo GM Mandy Cronin offered Delay an NWHL contract after the defender impressed team staff at the Beauts’ Free Agent Camp last weekend.
“Megan’s experience and accomplishments at the pro level speak volumes to what she will bring to the Beauts this season,” said Cronin. “Couple that with her character and infectious spirit, and she will be an immediate fan favorite.”
