PROVIDENCE, R.I.- Brooke Becker (Orchard Park, N.Y.) of the Providence College women’s ice hockey team was named the Hockey East Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Month for February, as announced by the conference on Tuesday, March 2.
Becker tallied three points in Providence’s victory over Boston University in the Hockey East Quarterfinal game on Sunday, Feb. 28. Becker’s third goal of the season gave the Friars an early lead 2:14 into the opening period, 1-0. She was credited with the secondary assist on Providence’s third goal scored by Hayley Lunny (Bedford, N.Y.) and earned the primary assist on the game winning goal by Caroline Peterson (East Falmouth, Mass.). The Friars went on to win 4-3 on home ice. She now has 14 points on the season with three goals and 11 assists, and is tied for second most points on the team.
Becker had five assists and one goal for six points in the month of February, doing so in three fewer games than anyone else in Hockey East. The freshman defender’s six points were the most of any rookie blueliner in the nation. She recorded two multi-point games in February, and helped the lead Friars in a victory over Boston University in the Hockey East Quarterfinals with one goal and two assists.
