Trevor Zegras of Bedford, NY was selected by the Anaheim Duck in the first round of the Entry Draft held in Vancouver.

“It is so awesome…I just ran into (former teammate) Alex Turcotte in the hall and gave him a big hug,” Zegras said in the post selection media scrum. “One of my best friends, Cam York, actually lives there and he’s told be how nice it is and he always comes back with a nice sun tan.”

Ranked sixth among North American skaters by NHL Central Scouting and tenth by several other ranking services, the Boston University commit saw his offensive numbers explode from 91 points over a combined 87 games with the U.S. Under-17 National Team and the Development Program’s USHL team in 2017-18 to 127 points in 87 games this past year with the U-18 and USHL squads.

The 6’0”, 168 lb. center is hoping his skill set works for where the NHL is going in terms of speed and finesse compared to a decade ago.

“I’m a two-way forward who has got really good vision, sees the ice really well and not afraid to make pretty cool passes, I guess, and really good on the power play.

Some draft projections had him going in the top six with Detroit drawing the most speculation, but Zegras was not unhappy to drop to ninth overall.

“I really wanted to go to whatever team that really wanted me the most, and I’m thrilled with Anaheim and really happy to be a Duck.”

Zegras and several of his National Team Development Program teammates are committed to play for Boston University this fall.
