Syracuse forward Lauren Bellefontaine scored three points, tallying a goal and two assists, in a 5-2 win over Lindenwood at Centene Community Ice Center on Saturday. In two games against the Lions this weekend, Bellefontaine has one goal and four assists. The junior became the fourth member of this year’s squad to join the 50 Point Club. She has 18 goals and 32 assists in 88 career games. The Orange (5-8-1 overall, 5-6-1 College Hockey America) return to the ice tomorrow at 2:00 pm to wrap up the three game series against Lindenwood. The game will be streamed live via Stretch.

“We got off to a good start in the first period and then we maintained a lot of offensive pressure throughout the game,” said head coach Paul Flanagan.

In the first period, Bellefontaine opened the scoring on a short-handed breakaway that put her one-on-one with Lindenwood keeper Julia Maguire. Bellefontaine buried the shot to give the Orange a 1-0 lead with less than four minutes left in the first. Junior forward Abby Moloughney earned the assist for setting up Bellefontaine.

Syracuse scored a pair of goals in the second period. Bellefontaine assisted on Syracuse’s second and third goals. Senior forward Victoria Klimek scored on a rebound from a Bellefontaine shot on a Syracuse power play just three minutes into the period. Moloughney registered her second assist of the game. Sophomore defender Mae Batherson put Syracuse ahead 3-0 when she slid the puck to the back of the net with just more than 11 minutes remaining in the second frame. Bellefontaine and Klimek tallied the assists.

Freshmen defender Hannah Johnson gave the Orange a 4-0 lead at the 7:43 mark in the third period tallying her second goal of the season on assists from sophomore forward Anna Leschyshyn and redshirt junior forward Marielle McHale. Leschyshyn then tallied the final Orange goal of the day with less than 10 minutes to play, scoring unassisted after a quick Syracuse win on a faceoff.

The Orange had goals from a skater in each class, marking the first time they accomplished that since an 8-0 victory against Lindenwood on February 15th, 2020.

Syracuse senior goaltender Allison Small recorded 20 saves in net, increasing her career total to 1,012. She is one of six Orange goalkeepers to achieve more than 1,000 saves.
