Bill Gray’s Regional Iceplex announced today a Free Sled Hockey Clinic during their Grand Reopening this weekend. Sled Hockey is an adapted version of ice hockey for people with physical disabilities (click here for full information on sledge hockey).
The clinic takes place this Sunday from from 2:30pm to 4:00pm and is being put on in conjunction with Rochester Sled Hockey, Rochester Youth Hockey and SportsNet.
Coaches and players will be on hand from some of the top programs in the State, including the Central New York Flyers and the Buffalo Wounded Warriors. Sleds will be available for use for those who wish to try the sport, and instruction will be provided to teach the basics.
“As a father to a son with special needs, I have been blessed with the opportunity to get on the ice and play alongside him and these tremendous athletes,” said Darren Zyra, Coordinator of the free event. “Any fan of sports will undoubtedly appreciate this great sport.”
“We are thrilled to host such a great event that will increase awareness of this sport,” said Chris Woodworth, General Manager of the Iceplex. “Hockey is a great sport which many local families are able to be a part of. Our hope is that this event will attract new people to sled hockey, and in turn enrich their lives like it has many others.”
