Bill Gray’s Regional Iceplex announced plans today for it’s Try Hockey For Free Day on February 21st. The day of free hockey events is being held as part of Hockey Weekend Across America, an annual celebration of ice hockey in the United States. Multiple free hockey trials will be offered for people of all ages with little to no experience ice skating.
Two ice hockey trials are being offered for children ages 5 to 9. Full equipment is provided and instruction is given by some of the top coaches and players from Rochester. Session times are 9:00am to 10:00am and 1:00pm to 2:00pm.
In addition, a sled hockey trial will be hosted from 2:00pm to 3:15pm for people of all ages. Sled hockey was created in Sweden in the 1960’s as an opportunity for people with physical disabilities to play ice hockey. The sport has grown significantly around the world and is the most popular Paralympic sport. People of all abilities are welcome to participate in this event, although it is being run as an effort to create awareness of the sport and form a team in Rochester.
