ROCHESTER, NY — Over 1,850 ice hockey players and family members will come together this weekend for the Empire State Showdown tournament. The annual event put on by MyHockey Tournaments will take place at Bill Gray’s Regional Iceplex and runs October 21st through October 23rd.
This is the second of six annual Rochester events put on by the tournament company based out of Chicago.
In total, 49 youth hockey teams will compete, of which 37 traveled in from all over North America. This event attracts U.S. teams from NY, PA, and NJ, as well as 23 teams from the Canadian province of Ontario.
The 37 out of town teams equates to roughly 1,375 out of town guests that will reside in local hotels, dine in local restaurants and shop in local stores over a three-day period. Based on the National Association of Sports Commissions Economic Impact Assumptions, this event will have an economic impact on the local community in the range of $540,000 and $740,000.
