BROCKPORT, N.Y. — Brockport scored a late power-play goal to emerge with a 4-3 SUNYAC win over Fredonia in a see-saw battle Friday.

Chad Cummings scored from the high slot with 1:37 left while Fredonia was attempting to kill a penalty. The Blue Devils (3-3-1 overall / 2-3-1 SUNYAC) were unable to score the equalizer despite pulling the goaltender for an extra attacker.

The Golden Eagles improved to 3-3-0 both overall and in the conference, with all three wins coming at home (3-0).

Hunter Long (Lebanon, Tenn.), Marcus Ortiz (Richardson, Texas), and Taylor Bourne (Calgary, Alberta) had the Blue Devils goals while Jeff Flagler (Owen Sound, Ont.) made 25 saves.

Dylan Shapiro, Tim Kielich, and Zac Sikich scored for Brockport prior to Cummings netting the game-winner. Cole Burack earned the win in net with 29 saves.

Despite outshooting Brockport 15-6, the Blue Devils trailed 1-0. The difference were the second of two Golden Eagle power plays as Shapiro scored off a rebound at 14:55,

While play evened out in the second period, the Blue Devils finally found the net – twice. Long’s goal at 9:03 tied the score at 1-1. It was his second goal of the season. The Blue Devils gave the momentum right back on a Brockport goal by Kielich at 10:12.

The Blue Devils tied the game up a second time, at 2-2, on a rare power-play goal. A one-timer from the right circle by Ortiz off a pass from the point by Ryan Wilkinson (Calgary, Alberta) was only Fredonia’s fourth power-play goal this season in 34 chances. It was the fifth goal of the season for Ortiz.

The teams traded goals in the third period, with Sikich putting Brockport on top, 3-2, just 55 seconds into the period. Fredonia forged the third tie of the game as Bourne converted a goal-mouth scramble at 10:24. It was his team-leading sixth goal of the season.

The game-winner by Cummings was his first goal of the season and dropped the Blue Devils to 0-3-1 on the road. They return to Steele Hall ice Saturday night to face Geneseo at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m. and admission is free.
