William Smith College sophomore Laurel Brown was named to the D3hockey.com National Team of the Week after posting a 2-0-0 record in goal for the Herons. She is the first William Smith player to be recognized on the national team of the week.

Brown had a strong weekend in goal for the Herons, stopping 73 of the 75 shots she faced for a .973 save percentage. On Friday, she surrendered only a second period goal in a 4-1 victory over Division I Sacred Heart. Brown made 39 saves in the victory. The next day she stopped the first 34 shots she faced on her way to collecting a third straight victory in the William Smith goal. Brown was an instrumental part in holding the Pioneers power play scoreless, making 11 stops on eight opportunities.

Brown collected her first collegiate win on Jan. 24, when the Herons upset Buffalo State 4-1. Over William Smith’s program best three-game winning streak, Brown has been the goalie of record in all three games and stopped 110 of 113 shots for a .973 save percentage and a 1.00 goals against average.

William Smith will be back on the ice this weekend when it faces Oswego State for a pair of ECAC West games. On Saturday, The Herons will travel to Oswego, N.Y., for a 3 p.m. faceoff. The Lakers will make the return trip for a 4 p.m. game in Geneva on Sunday.
